Aline Niyonkuru

Aline Niyonkuru is from Burundi. Burundi, like Rwanda, suffered from the genocide you heard so much about in 1993, and, unfortunately, continues to suffer from a protracted civil war. Despite the bleak (but ever so slowly improving) political situation, Aline is eager to return home during the summer and do the work that “needs to be done.” The project she has designed and would like to implement this summer -- and for three more summers to come. Is to go to Burundi and teach her countrymen English, in order to help break down the communication barriers between Burundi and the English speaking countries. She has raised money for her flight, for materials and supplies that she can use to get her “verbal literacy” project off the ground.
